At Nuffield Wellness, we provide medical-grade chemical peels. Chemical peels are used to remove damaged skin cells on the top layer, revealing healthier skin underneath. We use a different type of peel for different skin types and conditions like
- Dark spots
- Age spots
- Acne scars
- Uneven skin tone
- Dry & dehydrated skin
- Enlarged and clogged pores
- Fine lines and wrinkles
There are 3 main types of chemical peels - light, medium, and deep.
Light also called superficial peels; chemical peels use mild acids like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) to exfoliate gently. It only penetrates the outermost layer of skin. Common AHA acids include glycolic acid and lactic acid. They work by loosening dead skin cells from the skin and removing them to prevent buildup, which causes the skin to appear dull. They also help to even out the skin pigmentation, tone, enhancing collagen production, and reverse the signs of ageing.
Medium peels penetrate the skin at a medium depth while using trichloroacetic or glycolic acid to reach the middle and outer layer of the skin. This makes it more effective for removing damaged skin cells.
Deep chemical peels, which fully penetrate the middle layer of the skin. Deep peels use harsher aphids like phenol or trichloroacetic acid.
How is a chemical peel done?
- Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed before doing a chemical peel.
- One or more chemical solutions, such as lactic and salicylic acids will be applied on the skin.
- You can expect to feel a slight burning and tingling sensation during a chemical peel that lasts about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation.
- Post peel, You may get a cool compress to put on your skin and ease the stinging. You may also need pain medication during or after a deeper peel.
The recovery time of your skin post-treatment depends on the type of peel done on the skin. If a light peel is done, your skin will have a downtime of 3-5 days. Likewise, with deep peels, your skin will need about 1-2 weeks to recover fully. You will experience some side effects where your skin will be dry, itchy and red for the healing process.
You will be able to see a difference in just 1 session. Your tone and texture would have improved, with lesser and smaller bumps and a lighter complexion. It may take a few sessions to achieve your desired results. It is important to maintain a suitable skincare routine after the chemical peel if you are looking for long term results.
